Fujitsu Siemens Computers will launch the first zero-watt PC at
this year's CeBIT show in Germany.
The PC consumes absolutely no power in standby mode and follows
on the heels of a zero-watt monitor
Fujitsu launched at
last year's CeBIT show.
Whilst consuming no power in standby, the machine still remains
administrable, said Fujitsu.
Even if they are not being used and the screen has long gone
dark, PCs and monitors connected to the main power source usually
continue to consume between one and five watts of electricity in
standby mode depending on the model, Fujitsu said.
The firm said most of its business PCs already meet new EU
legislation requirements for reduced power consumption in
standby.
These PCs consume less than the one watt of power in standby
that is stipulated by legislation that comes into effect on 5
January 2010.
CeBIT takes place
on 3-8 March in Hanover.
