Schools learning agency Becta has launched a new technology
charter to help schools join the digital revolution.
Every school in the country is being given the opportunity to
make public their commitment to IT, said Becta.
Becta said that schools who sign up to the
Next
Generation Learning Charter will be taking the first step
towards recognition for strategic and effective use of technology
across their school.
They will be given guidance and advice by Becta to help them
progress, and they will be recognised when they reach key stages of
development.
Central to helping schools is Becta's Self-Review Framework, an
online tool designed to help schools review their technology use in
a structured way, which will in turn help inform their overall
school improvement strategy and plans.
Using the Self-Review Framework will help schools move towards
gaining Becta's IT Mark, the national standard in the use of
technology across all aspects of school life, including student
assessment, teaching and learning, and the development of staff,
leadership and management.
Stephen Crowne, chief executive of
Becta, said, "Technology in
the classroom is no longer a distant dream, technology is part of
everyday life for us all, and schools need to ensure they do not
get left behind.
"The Next Generation Learning Charter will help thousands of
schools develop their use of technology across the school, so we
have a world class education system where all young people are
inspired and motivated."
By signing up to the Next Generation Learning Charter schools
will be saying that over the next three years they will:
- Develop a shared vision for the use of technology
- Plan the use of IT across the curriculum
- Use technology to enhance learning and support
- Assess how technology is supporting pupils' learning
- Ensure all staff and learners can use technology effectively
and safely
- Use technology to extend learning beyond the school
- Make sure they have safe, secure and sustainable resources
- Use technology to help learners progress and achieve
