The UK Border Agency has chosen IBM as a strategic systems integration partner for its Immigration Case Work (ICW) programme.

The first-phase contract is over three years, with options to extend it for a further four years. Both EDS and Fujitsu were also in the race to win the work.

Working in conjunction with the UK Border Agency, IBM will provide consulting and systems integration services, and deliver the overall design of the new IT system to support the applications process for visas and immigration.

The ICW programme is key to delivering the UK Border Agency's objective of streamlining immigration processes by promoting new ways of working and making substantial improvements to IT.

Matthew Coats, head of immigration at the UK Border Agency, said, "I look forward to working together to deliver a first-class case working capability. The ICW programme is integral to our work as we carry out the biggest shake up of the immigration system for a generation. It will help us to make fast and fair decisions and manage migration for the benefit of the British public."
