The IT security industry is warning Windows users to patch a
server security flaw as quickly as possible as exploits have been
released to the wild.
Microsoft released an out of cycle patch last week to tackle the
flaw and the security industry is now tracking Trojan attacks that
seek to exploit the vulnerability.
The flaw affects all versions of Windows, says
Microsoft, although the Vista OS is less vulnerable than
Windows XP.
Security firms are now tracking the progress of the Gimmiv.A
worm that is now trying to exploit the vulnerability over the
web.
Alex Eckelberry, president of IT security firm Sunbelt Software,
said of the flaw, "This could actually be one of the bigger
monsters of the last couple years. Researchers are going to be
burning the midnight oil over the next couple of days to understand
what the real issues are."
