The Google Android mobile operating system is now
officially available for free as an open source system, says the
Android Open Source
Project.
Google and its partners have now begun sharing Android's
underlying source code.
The Android Open Source Project site now includes the Android
source code itself, along with a host of other features for
developers to make it easier for them to develop mobile apps.
T-Mobile has already announced the first mobile device to use
the Android OS, which will be available from next month.
The Android code is managed by the Android Open Source Project
and anyone contributing code to the project must sign a
Contributor's License Agreement.
