Google has launched an initiative to put old newspaper archives
online.
The search company is partnering with around 100 newspapers
around the world to digitise their old content and make it
available online. The content covered pre-dates the internet
age.
Google will integrate its AdSense advertising service with the
programme so publishers can generate revenue from page views of the
articles.
Users will be able to go to a specific article in the paper and
see related articles from other papers displayed on the right-hand
side of the page. Similar technology is used for the existing
Google Books service.
The newspaper project expands on a deal Google already has with
the New York Times and Washington Post to index back issues in its
Google News
Archive.
