Car rental firm Hertz Europe is securing itsonline paymentsby linking its website
to anti-fraud systems from Visa and Mastercard.
Hertz, which operates in 145 countries, has subscribed to a
service from electronic payments specialist Cybersource.
The Payer Authentication Service service gives Hertz access to
Visa's
Verified by Visa and Mastercard's Securecode verification
systems.
Hertz can use the service without having to integrate the
technology into its own website or gain accreditation from the
credit card companies.
"The service is flexible enough to integrate fully with our
existing e-commerce systems," said Lesley Lindberg, vice-president,
marketing at Hertz.
Hertz will be charged every time it uses the system.
Tim Sparrow, head of client and technical services at
Cybersource, said Hertz was using the service across Europe, but
could use it worldwide if required.
Gareth Lodge, analyst at Towergroup, said the
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard would drive more
firms to adopt this type of security.
Other Cybersource users include Trainline, BA and Royal
Mail.
