Securing personally identifiable information (PII) is the top business technology concern for executives, according to a survey released today.
ISACA, a non-profit organisation serving more than 86,000 IT governance professionals worldwide, ranked seven business issues impacted by technology in its study.
The survey, of more than 3,100 business and technology executives in over 95 countries, ranked securing PII as the top issue for the next 12 to 18 months.
The second-ranked worry was enterprise-based management and IT governance, with information security management third and disaster recovery/business continuity fourth.
Greg Grocholski, senior finance director at Dow Chemical and chairman of ISACA's assurance committee, said, "The cost of losing or compromising the integrity of PII is also leading to a renewed focus on information security.
"The survey shows that 81% of the 1,600 respondents who named information security management as their number three concern said security risks were not fully known or only partially assessed using technology."
