UK retailer Marks & Spencer has confirmed it will secure its 16,000+ point of sale (POS) systems and enforce Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) using application control software from US-based Bit9.

Bit9 provides "whitelisting" software. This allows only approved applications to run or approved devices to access the network. By stopping malicious, illegal and unauthorised software from running, it prevents data leakage and protects against malicious software.
