Scottish Water in £120m outsource bonanza

Scottish Water has signed three IT outsourcing contracts worth a total of £120m that it expects will cut its operating costs by £8m over the next eight years.

The water company said that a shift to collaborative outsourcing using fewer suppliers would enhance its IT services while reducing costs.

Scottish Water has awarded the contracts to Tata Consultancy Services for applications management and support Fujitsu for service desk, desktop and infrastructure and BT for mobile, data, voice and networks.

The utility company said the combination would offer employees a range of extended services, including a 24/7 IT service desk and systems maintenance.

The move follows a six-year business transformation project aimed at helping Scottish Water meet efficiency and service targets set by the regulator.

David Brown, general manager for IT, said the outsourcing deals presented the "opportunity to exploit the extensive development capabilities of some of the most innovative companies in the business".

The new service delivery model includes a fully integrated framework to support the delivery of Scottish Water's IT capital development programme.
