Within the next few weeks Grand Prix fans will have a more secure online experience when they buy their memorabilia from the Formula 1 website.

The F1 site will bring to 12 the number of sports-related on-line shops hosted by Kitbag that use a Verisign Extended Validation SSL certificate. Once issued and implemented on the website, the 128-bit encrypted certificate turns the online shopper's browser bar green to signify an authentic site.

In addition to F1, Kitbag hosts the online stores for Manchester United, Barcelona, the Football Association and England Cricket, among others.

Stewart Rowe, head of IT at Kitbag, said, "One of our main challenges has always been to ensure that our customers feel confident when it comes to making payment."
