There has been a high tech theme to 29 February, the day that lovestruck women propose to their sweethearts.

Rather than women, Vianet set up an electronic billboard at Victoria station in London using machine-to-machine (M2M) communications to allow computers propose to one another. The wire-free communications is normally used to enable controllers to update and manage equipment using 3G and GPRS technology to provide advertising, information, security and assistance to travellers. But today, computers were able to show their love.

The message was uploaded to screens at Victoria Station by remote managers at digital display expert Esprit Digital. The screens, powered by the company's ImageFlow technology, were connected over Vianet's 3G M2M service, Connect.
