Marchwood Power is to support the operation and maintenance of its £400m gas turbine power plant under construction near Southampton with new software.

The package provides business process integration at the power plant, including modules for maintenance management, finance management, procurement, and supply chain planning and execution.

The power plant, due for completion in 2009 and designed to supply electricity to 800,000 homes, will be run and maintained using QuickStep Enterprise Asset Management software from Lawson.

Tony McShane, plant manager for Marchwood, said, "Our industry operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year, involving complex and expensive assets, so any downtime creates an expensive situation which needs to be minimised through a good maintenance strategy."

He said Marchwood had chosen the software because it provided a single integrated system to underpin a good maintenance strategy and ensure operational efficiency.

The implementation at the Marchwood power station will be carried out in two phases with finance and procurement first followed by maintenance and logistics scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
