Ofcom has announced the release of further spectrum to support deployments on long-range wireless broadband services, such as Wimax.
The first UK commercial Wimax service was announced by a project promoted by Milton Keynes Council.
Ofcom proposes to release the new spectrum in the 2010-2025MHz and
2500-2690 MHz bands (known as 2.6 GHz).
The spectrum can be used for Wimax or next-generation 3G services, said Ofcom.
An auction for the spectrum is expected to take place next summer, Ofcom said.
