National Gridis busy building a
globalshared service IT modelto help
integrate its acquisition of a US utility services
firm.
The company outlined its plans after posting its half-year
results, which saw operating profits rise 19%.
The firm recently acquired US-based KeySpan. It has also
disposed of its UK and US wireless businesses.
The acquisition of KeySpan makes National Grid the second
largest energy delivery business in the US by customer numbers,
said National Grid.
National Grid chief executive Steve Holliday said, "We are
making good progress with the implementation of our global
operating model and the integration of KeySpan.
He said, "We believe that around 75% of our activities can be
managed on either a global or lines of business basis, while only
25% need to be tailored to meet specific local requirements.
"To achieve this aim, we are developing and deploying
standardised procedures and processes for customer service, asset
management, and work delivery. In support of these 'front-line'
activities, we have established UK and US shared services, global
IS and global finance organisations."
Holliday said the approach will "yield significant savings in
our regulated controllable cost base, which is around £2bn
annually."
