IBM has enhanced itsstorage virtualisationoffering across
its disc andtape systems.
IBM has announced the addition of the new
IBM
System Storage N series Virtual File Manager (VFM) and
enhancements to the IBM Virtualisation Engine TS7520 tape
system.
IBM System Storage N series VFM provides a comprehensive
solution for managing unstructured file data across an enterprise,
said Big Blue.
VFM software supports the virtualisation of file systems
residing on Unix, Linux, Windows and IBM N systems. VFM provides
data management functionality for server and
storage consolidation, migration, remote office data management
and
disaster recovery.
VFM provides continuous user access to data to ensure business
continuity in the event of a disaster, or while performing storage
consolidation or data migration, IBM said.
The enhanced IBM Virtualisation Engine TS7520 now offers
750Gbyte disc drives to lower overall storage costs, and enhanced
scalability with maximum capacity increased to 1.3 petabytes.
In addition, the TS7520 will now support IBM's encryption
capable LTO Gen 4 tape drives to provide higher capacity and
improve data security.
The TS7520 also has improved backup and restore functions, said
IBM.
