The Health and Safety Executive is improving information management with an electronic document and records management (EDRM) system.

The HSE is deploying the Trim Context EDRM system from Tower Software to support 3,400 users across 28 office locations.

LogicaCMG will incorporate the implementation as part of its ten-year outsourcing agreement with HSE, and will simultaneously undertake an enterprise migration to Microsoft Office 2003 and Outlook that will encompass all text-based files, including e-mail.

Richard Lewis, head of information management at HSE, said, "This EDRM project has been driven by a desire to manage information better across HSE. The rising popularity of desktop tools has led us further away from print and a traditional records management culture.

"As a consequence, information silos had started to appear. The Trim Context system will allow users to find the information they are looking for far more easily and derive intelligence from it. It will also help us handle the large volume of incoming Freedom of Information (FoI) enquiries we receive," said Lewis.
