EMC has introduced a range of tools designed to help
users to integrate data de-duplication and continuous data
protection (CDP) technologies into their existing back-up and
recovery environments.
EMC's
NetWorker software will now provide integration of data
de-duplication from EMC Avamar and continuous data protection from
EMC RecoverPoint.
Although businesses will still be able to purchase standalone
Avamar and
RecoverPoint products, EMC said NetWorker has been designed to
simplify administration by centralising control and management of
new data-protection applications.
The technology provided through integration with Avamar stores
only a single copy of sub-file data across sites and servers, which
EMC said dramatically reduces the amount of data that is backed up
daily
EMC said the integration of RecoverPoint with NetWorker would
help users to manage RecoverPoint through the NetWorker Management
Console interface and create point-in-time CDP snapshots for rapid
recoveries and long-term back up to disk or tape. Centralised
management from NetWorker allows customers to schedule CDP
snapshots, set policies, and browse the index of RecoverPoint-based
snapshots.
EMC has also updated Backup Advisor software and its Disk
Library DL4000, which now supports Raid 6 protection for improved
availability and new one terabyte disc drives that provide 30% more
capacity.
Backup Advisor software is a customisable backup reporting,
alerting, monitoring, and correlation analysis tool for EMC
NetWorker and third-party backup software products. New security
capabilities in the software include Microsoft Windows
authentication for Microsoft SQL Server, a full audit trail of all
configuration changes, encrypted communications, user
authentication, expanded role-based permissions and SSL
authentication.
