Adobeis acquiring Virtual Ubiquity
and its online word processor Buzzword to ease collaboration among
users.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, will further Adobe's
offering in rich internet application (RIA) development and enable
improvements in how people collaborate on documents, said
Adobe.
Adobe will integrate Buzzword with its existing online document
collaboration services, including Create Adobe PDF Online, Adobe
Document Center, and Adobe Acrobat Connect software.
Virtual Ubiquity is an 11-person start-up in the Boston area.
Founded in 2005, the company built Buzzword with the Adobe Flex
development software.
Virtual Ubiquity employees will become Adobe employees and will
remain a closely knit team working from Adobe's Newton,
Massachusetts, office, said Adobe.
Buzzword stores files online so they are available in a single
repository for document collaboration.
Buzzword has been in limited preview since May 2007, with users
in more than 50 countries.
