Alcatel-Lucent will secure and centrally managewireless local area networks (WLANs)at all three of Thames Valley University's campuses to
provide students and staff with public internet access from
anywhere on the sites.
Once the networks are deployed, students and staff will be
merely required to complete a quick and easy registration form to
connect personal laptops or desktop PCs to the university network
and have access to shared documents, such as lecture notes.
Thames Valley University was previously unwilling to deploy
wireless networks across its campuses as it was concerned that
unauthorised personnel would be able to gain access to university
resources.
But by combining
Alcatel-Lucent's wireless networking technology with network
access controls from Bradford Networks, the university can ensure
that
only approved users and devices can gain network access.
The first two phases of the deployment have been completed at
TVU's Ealing and Slough campuses. The university's Reading campus
sites will be the next locations to benefit from the wireless
networks technology.
