Barclaycard Business and Computer Cab have demonstrated the first taxi contactless payments terminal at this week’s Business Travel Show in Earls Court.

Barclaycard Business has fitted a Comcab “concept cab” with Visa “wave and pay” technology to demonstrate how Computer Cab could offer customers a secure, efficient and convenient payment method for taxi fares.

In December, Barclaycard announced its intention to make contactless card payments a reality in 2007.

In addition to traditional terminals, Barclaycard Business has a variety of options planned. A portable terminal is planned for restaurants and bars, and a mobile terminal is seen as ideal for cabs and other applications.

In 2005, more than 1.8 billion purchases were made with credit and debit cards through 192,000 Barclaycard Business’ customer outlets in the UK.
