Microsoft has announced a complete PC-based
point-of-sale and integrated payments solution, which it will
deliver in partnership with First Data Corporation and
HP.
Microsoft said the solution was “designed to revolutionise the
way small retailers do business and process payments, driving a
generational change in payments infrastructure”.
Payment terminals and dial-up connections can be replaced with
the PC-based electronic point-of-sale (Epos) solution connected to
a broadband link. Microsoft said this would cut costs and offer
greater value to retailers and their customers.
The integrated point-of-sale solution can replace cash
registers, allowing retailers to easily adopt integrated
payment-based point of sale and payment processing.
The offering combines First Data’s credit, debit and gift card
payment-processing capabilities with the newly updated Microsoft
Dynamics Point of Sale 2.0 and with HP’s rp5000 PC, which offers a
full line of point-of-sale peripherals and warranties.
The solution will be sold by First Data and its participating
alliance partners and independent sales organisations. Purchase and
lease options will be available.
