The London Borough of Lambeth has signed a £7m voice and data networking deal with BT that will help the council meet its government-imposed savings targets.

BT will deliver a converged voice and data network as part of a managed telephony contract linking more than 300 locations in the London borough. The contract will run for three years, with the option to extend it for a further two years.

“This is an exciting advance for us and we look forward to the benefits that will be achieved from what will be one of the most advanced network and telephony projects in local government,” Lambeth’s executive director of strategy and corporate services, Eric Bohl, said.

Lambeth will use the network to realise its New Ways of Working strategy that aims to transform the delivery of most council services.

Under the contract, council officers have the option of extending the services provided through the customer contact centres, developing wireless communications and enabling more flexible working.
