A Welsh minister has claimed that a new procurement
framework for computer consumables could bring savings of more than
70% to public sector organisations in Wales.
The framework includes a suite of e-sourcing tools and covers
electronic auctions for supply contracts, which are expected to
produce half the savings. The computer consumables framework is
part of a programme of collaborative procurement across the Welsh
public sector, looking at expenditure in different areas.
Welsh Assembly finance, local government and public services
minister Sue Essex said the framework would help organisations
ranging from primary schools to major local authorities. Across the
public sector, 72% savings could be achieved.
“It is good to see hard evidence that our investment in Value
Wales is paying back. This level of savings is the equivalent of an
extra 180 teachers or nurses for Wales,” she said.
Work on the framework was led by Newport council, South Wales,
on behalf of the Welsh Purchasing Consortium and backed by Value
Wales, which provides procurement support to Welsh local
authorities.
