Backup Exec extends data protection

Symantec is extending the continuous data protection feature in its Backup Exec product to support Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint Server, SQL Server and non-Windows software.

Launched lasted week, Backup Exec 11d has been designed to overcome the drawback of traditional back-up, which can only archive a snapshot of the data. Instead, the new product provides continuous back-up.

IT managers should be able to restore individual messages from an Exchange inbox, Symantec said.
