Tesco has installed heat sensors in its supermarkets
that can identify in-store bottlenecks as customers move
around.
The UK's largest retailer is using the technology to ease
congestion at tills and in store aisles. By improving the flow of
customers around its stores, Tesco said it was maximising revenue
and increasing customer satisfaction.
Built by UK manufacturer Irisys, the heat sensors have been
installed above the doors in the Tesco stores. The same technology
is used by the emergency services to locate survivors in collapsed
buildings.
Tesco will collect the sensor information in a dedicated
in-store customer flow system.
