Adoption of configuration management databases (CMDB) to
aid systems management is expected to double in the next
year.
A CMDB stores details of the components of an IT system and the
relationships between them, helping organisations to understand
their IT infrastructures.
Research conducted for service management firm Tertio SMS found
that many companies plan to invest in IT configuration and
management tools. The main drivers are plans to adopt an ITIL-based
framework (44%), avoid downtime (30%), and managing IT change
(28%).
