More and more users are implementing configuration
management databases (CMDB), with CMDB adoption set to double over
the next year, according to a report.
A CMDB stores information about the components of an
organisation’s IT system and the relationship between those
elements, and helps the organisation to understand their IT
infrastructure.
The research from Metrica on behalf of service management firm
Tertio SMS, found that a large proportion of companies plan to
invest in IT configuration and management tool in next 12
months.
The main drivers behind this were the desire to adopt an
ITIL-based framework (44%), avoid downtime (30%), and manage change
to system components and applications (28%).
Respondents also highlighted a number of perceived benefits of a
CMDB, including giving them a co-ordinated picture of their IT
system, managing their assets better, and reducing the time wasted
on changes to systems by IT staff (65%).
