Pay rates for telecoms and network professionals are
rising as comms companies step up recruitment after a long period
of retrenchment.
Demand for telecoms staff rose for the third successive quarter
at the end of 2005, driving up average salaries to their highest
level for three years, research by IT sector skills council
E-Skills UK found.
The upturn follows a period of heavy job cutting in the sector.
"Telcos have been chopping in all directions and now they are
having to recruit again. I think we can expect a solid expansion in
demand for medium- and high-level skills," said Philip Virgo,
strategic adviser at the Institute for the Management of
Information Systems.
Rising demand, particularly for network support engineers, has
pushed average rates to £700 a week.
