Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the world wide web, will
present his vision of the web’s future, the risks it faces and the
business opportunities it can create at the 15th International
World Wide Web Conference in Edinburgh this week.
One of the major areas for discussion is Web 2.0, the next
version of the web. This comprises a network derived from a service
oriented ¬architecture and an open and extensible way of conducting
business that takes advantage of the web’s infrastructure.
Analyst firm Gartner said Web 2.0 relies on a fundamental shift
in how people and businesses use technology to interact. “Through
this change, as demonstrated by services such as wikis and blogs,
users act as content and application creators, becoming networked
collective intelligence,” Gartner said.
