Sun Microsystems is to launch an upgraded version of its
web services development platform on 16 May.
The company will release a software development kit and
compatibility test suite for Java Enterprise Edition 5 (Java
EE5).at its JavaOne Conference in the US, to allow web service
platform suppliers and developers take advantage of the
technology.
Java EE is currently known as Java 2 Enterprise Edition, or
J2EE. Companies including IBM, BEA, JBoss and Oracle are now set to
deliver application server platforms that rely on the new
version.
Sun says that Java EE5 allows users to develop new web services
code much quicker, and is less clunky to use than the current
version.
Java EE5 will compete against rival web services platforms such
as Microsoft’s .net solution.
