Symantec has relaunched an anti-phishing fraud service
it acquired as part of its purchase of WholeSecurity last
year.
Symantec said that eBay, Google, Yahoo, RSA Security and Wells
Fargo would participate in the data sharing group, although
Microsoft is no longer involved.
The relaunched Phish Report Network would provide a vetted and
constantly updated database of fraudulent websites, said
Symantec.
Companies could use the database to protect their networks, and
security software suppliers could use the service to update the
blacklists within their products.
Similar phishing site alert services already exist. There is
CipherTrust's PhishRegistry.org, and the non-profit and
industry-supported Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG).
Companies and organisations that contribute data to the Phish
Report Network will get free access to the database. Others will be
charged to help cover the costs of running the database.
