Intel and Microsoft are to combine their network
management technologies and work together to develop virtualisation
technology. The move could ease system management for
users.
Intel will connect its Active Management Technology (AMT) with
Microsoft's Systems Management Server 2003.
The companies said the move would improve users' ability to
protect computers from viruses and could lower maintenance
costs.
Intel and Microsoft will also develop the Intel Virtualisation
Technology to include support for mapping input/output devices to
virtual machines on servers with a new specification - Intel
Virtualisation for Directed I/O. The companies said the technology
would help improve the reliability, flexibility and performance of
I/O in a virtualised environment.
