Open-Xchange is to offer an add-on to its e-mail server
software that will support Windows log-in, allowing users to
replace Microsoft Windows and Exchange servers with Linux
servers.
The add-on, called Samba Oxtender, provides Linux-based log-on
file and print services for Microsoft Windows workstations.
Samba Oxtender enables streamlined and efficient administration
with end-user functionality managed via a single front end,
Open-Xchange said. All data, including e-mails and files, are
stored in a single place, simplifying e-mail server
administration.
Along with e-mail, calendaring, contacts and task management,
Open-Xchange provides groupware features such as document sharing,
project tracking, user forums, and a knowledge base.
It also supports rich client desktop applications such as
Microsoft Outlook as well as most browsers and mobile devices.
Samba Oxtender will be available from mid-March through the
Open-Xchange online shop and the Open-Xchange partner network.
