The open-source KDE Project has released an updated
version of its KDE graphical desktop solution for the Linux
operating system.
KDE 3.5 includes improvements to the bundled Konqueror browser
and the ability to handle widget-style applications.
The browser now includes an ad-block tool to filter web page
advertisements. And on the desktop, KDE now includes the
SuperKaramba tool, which allows users and developers to create
widgets.
Widgets are small interactive applications that pull specific
data from the internet, which can include RSS news feeds and other
automatically loaded content.
Microsoft intends providing tighter RSS support in its
forthcoming Windows Vista operating system next year.
The open-source desktop programme can be downloaded from the KDE
Project’s site in compiled versions for the Arch Linux, Kubuntu,
Slackware, and SuSE Linux operating systems.
This is the first update to KDE since March.
