Skype has updated its voice over IP software to fix two
security flaws, one of which allows a remote attacker to take over
a user’s PC.
The threat of a machine being taken over only affects Windows
users, and the other flaw, which involves a denial of service
attack, affects all PC platforms.
Skype has issued patches for both threats. The Skype VoIP
software has been downloaded almost 190m times since the company’s
launch in 2003, and over 60m people worldwide are registered users
of Skype’s cheap phone service.
In September, online auctioneer eBay took over Skype as part of
its wider strategy to expand its services to users.
