Autodesk buys Alias

CAD specialist Autodesk, which describes itself as the world’s third biggest software company behind Microsoft and Oracle, is acquiring Alias, a developer of 3D graphics technology.
Autodesk will use the $182m (£107m) takeover to support customers moving from 2D to 3D computer-aided design programs.
Clients of Toronto-based Alias include Nintendo, General Motors and BMW, and the company had sales of almost £50m for the year ended June.
There are around six million users of Autodesk's popular CAD programs. The company had sales of £220m for the quarter ended July, which was up a third.
