Microsoft has released Service Pack 2 for its Office
2003 collaboration suite, which includes a number of security and
performance enhancements.
SP2 is anything from 50Mbytes to more than 100Mbytes in size
depending on which components of the Office suite are
installed.
The service pack contains fixes for a number of performance bugs
and security flaws in Office 2003. Some have already been addressed
in previous individual updates, but the pack aggregates them to
make sure users don’t miss anything important.
Among the new features is a phishing protection facility in
Outlook 2003's junk e-mail filter.
This feature is turned on by default for SP2 users and is
designed to protect them from e-mail sent by attackers seeking to
glean sensitive user information, such as electronic banking
usernames and passwords.
The service pack would also improve application stability, said
Microsoft.
SP2 supports Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Visual
Studio 2005.
