The open-source Mozilla Foundation has released a
temporary fix to its Firefox browser to protect it against
attackers running malicious software on users’
machines.
The downloadable fix protects users against a problem related to
the way Firefox handles internationalised domain names, or
IDNs.
IDNs are domain names that use local language characters. The
fix disables support for such web addresses.
Mozilla said it is currently working on a permanent fix to the
problem which will still permit users to use IDNs.
Mozilla issued a fix earlier this year which prevented
fraudsters from using IDNs to steal cash from users via spoofed
website addresses.
