Although virtually all IT managers believe information
management is important to their organisation less than 50%
understand the regulations and legislation this
encompasses.
That was one finding from a survey of 119 IT professionals
conducted by Documation UK, an event being run by Computer Weekly's
sister organisation Reed Exhibitions on 12-13 October.
The survey found that many organisations still have much
progress to make in the area of information management, with 44%
lacking a document and information management strategy. Moreover,
20% of organisations surveyed said they hold more than 60% of their
company information only on paper.
Documation UK focuses on products and services aimed at ensuring
effective information, content and document management. In addition
to a product showcase, the event will include presentations from
analysts, consultants and suppliers.
According to the survey, the top four information management
issues are:
- Rapid document retrieval
- Ensuring effective collaboration between different departments
on joint documents
- Consolidation
- Information security.
Documation has been spun off from Storage Expo, the UK's main
annual data storage event, which this year has keynote
presentations from high-profile IT users to accompany the
exhibition. Speakers come from Friends Provident, RWE npower,
Ordnance Survey, Lilly, Credit Suisse First Boston, Abbey and the
Royal Borough of Kingston.
