Barnet Council has equipped more than 200 social workers
with mobile devices for sharing data on the move.
The deployment of O2 XDA II handhelds makes Barnet one of the
first council social care departments in the UK to deploy a mobile
data-sharing application, said O2.
The devices run the Intellisync Mobile Suite's File Sync e-mail
and diary management applications over O2's GPRS network.
Helen Wylde, O2's head of corporate marketing, said, "It might
have been possible to deploy a desktop solution providing some of
the functionality, but this would have meant pulling frontline
staff into the office."
The implementation is intended to help Barnet's social services
staff implement the government's Every Child Matters strategy, a
key objective of which is the effective sharing of information.
