Irwin Mitchell upgrades networks with
IP
Law firm Irwin Mitchell is replacing its Frame Relay networks with
IP communication technology from Cable & Wireless. The £2m
upgrade will involve a managed wide area network connecting all
five UK offices and is expected to help drive down the company's
operational cost, and support its business-critical applications
and disaster recovery programme.
DWP websites to work with multiple browsers
The Department of Work and Pensions is to make its websites
accessible to people using a range of browsers, including the open
source Firefox browser. The move will see the Internet Job Bank
employment search service made compatible with browsers other than
Microsoft's Internet Explorer for the first time, in recognition of
the growing popularity of other browsers. The Jobcentre Plus
website already works with non Internet Explorer browsers but the
Internet Job Bank element does not.
Microsoft to certify Indian software firms
Microsoft has launched a quality-certification programme for Indian
software developers. Indian suppliers PacSoft, Skelta and Talisma
have already signed up to the programme, which will be managed by
consultancy QAI India. Microsoft is keen to establish business
relationships with Indian software developers because the country's
trade body estimates that its software market will be worth between
£4.4bn and £6bn by 2010.
Cheshire NHS trusts sign IBM and Esprit
NHS and social care organisations in Cheshire have chosen IBM and
web-based information management firm Esprit to build an a computer
system to help 1,000 staff assess the needs of vulnerable elderly
people. Cheshire County Council and four local NHS primary care
trusts have joined together to procure the system.
Alpha Retail implements SAP R/3 in all its
stores
Alpha Retail is implementing SAP R/3 for Retail in all its stores.
The airports-based retailer will implement core SAP IS retail
modules, SAP's Warehouse Management, Forecasting and Replenishment,
Finance and Business Warehouse components. SAP consultancy
CiberNovasoft will use its novaRetail application to map business
processes.
