Microsoft has unveiled a roadmap for its Virtual Server
virtualisation technology.
The next release, now called Virtual Server 2005 R2, is due to
begin shipping in the last quarter of the year.
It will provide customers with increased operational efficiency in
server consolidation, application re-hosting, disaster recovery,
and software test and development, said Microsoft.
The company plans to deliver a new release of Virtual Server soon
after Virtual Server 2005 R2. Scheduled for beta release in the
first half of 2006, with commercial availability in the second half
of 2006, the next version will provide users with greater support
to tie in with the next version of the main Windows operating
system, Windows Vista.
