Novell is to offer subscriptions to the MySQL Network database
support service directly to its customers, following a deal
announced at the Linuxworld conference in San Francisco.
The announcement follows hard on the heels of a tie-up between
Dell and MySQL, which will see the hardware manufacturer reselling
the MySQL Network support package.
MySQL Network was launched in February as a subscription service
that includes access to MySQL software, updates and upgrades,
proactive alerts and advisories, the online MySQL knowledgebase and
technical support.
The reseller and joint-support agreement with Novell is the only
one of its kind between a Linux vendor and MySQL.
It is aimed at speeding up enterprise adoption of the open
source MySQL database, which already has six million active
installations worldwide. It will deliver combined support for key
components of the open source LAMP infrastructure stack.
MySQL chief executive Marten Mickos said, “Our database
customers have asked us to deliver a fully tested and supported
infrastructure, working with top-tier platform providers such as
Novell.”
