Microsoft has extended a US and south America-based services contract with Siemens Business Services into a global deal to provide desk-top support and IT services to 70,000 Microsoft employees.

The multi-million pound “multi-year” contract covers Microsoft users in the US, Central and South America, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa.

In total, Siemens Business Services will provide support in 57 countries. The agreement expands a contract Siemens had in North and South America.

In addition, the new contract includes the establishment of a Global Program Management office, to drive and oversee continuous improvement efforts and reduce support costs.

David Loofburrow, Microsoft help desk group manager, said, “We are confident Siemens will continue to provide world class desk-side support to our employees and contingent staff under the agreement.”

OvumHolway analyst Kate Hanaghan highlighted the “Global Program Management” element of the contract, which has been put in place to “drive and oversee continuous improvement efforts and reduce support costs”.
