Adobe Reader launched for Linux

Adobe has launched Adobe Reader 7.0 for the Linux operating system, to allow Linux users to read, manage and print documents in the PDF format.

Adobe had previously offered support to Linux with Adobe Reader 5.0, but dropped it with version 6.0, launched in 2003.

"The Linux adoption rate among enterprises worldwide - especially among government and financial services organisations - is increasing," said Eugene Lee, Adobe vice president of product marketing, intelligent documents business unit.

"Our customers are asking for Adobe Reader 7.0 on Linux as they begin to support core enterprise applications at the desktop. Today's announcement helps our customers continue to improve their business processes and workflows with more comprehensive, multi-platform support for the intelligent document platform," he said.

Both Novell and Red Hat have applauded the move, as a Linux supporting document reader will help collaboration processes among their Linux enterprise customers.

The free Linux PDF reader is now available for download from the Adobe website.
