Yahoo is to increase the free e-mail storage limits of
its users from 250Mbytes to 1Gbyte, to match the limit set by rival
Google for its Gmail service.
Since Gmail appeared around a year ago, both Yahoo and
Microsoft’s Hotmail have increased their free e-mail storage limits
from 6Mbytes and 2Mbytes limits, respectively, to 250Mbytes.
All three companies are competing to keep their users on-side
with improved e-mail storage limits, as users will have more chance
of viewing their online advertisments and other commercial
services, such as sponsored searches, that they are developing.
Currently, Yahoo and Hotmail users wanting more than
250Mbytes can pay for an upgrade to 2GBbytes and higher.
