Wyse Technology has launched a thin client terminal
based on the latest Linux operating system.
The Wyse Winterm 5150SE, based on the Linux Kernel 2.6 with the
Wyse Linux V6 operating system, supports mixed platform
environments that include both Linux and Windows.
It displays Windows applications running thin client solutions
on Citrix MetaFrame and Microsoft Terminal Services installations,
and has an integrated Java-capable Firefox browser for direct
access to HTML applications.
The graphical user interface is not a traditional Linux GUI, but
a blend of the Windows CE and XP look and feel that is familiar and
transparent to users, said Wyse.
Add-on capabilities and auto-upgrade of add-ons allows
administrators to customise the model 5150SE to suit their
environment.
John Kish, Wyse chief executive said, "The Winterm 5150SE is the
latest advance in addressing enterprise needs in the growing market
for thin clients on the Linux platform."
The Winterm 5150SE costs from £239.
