The Chinese government expects to complete the
development of a national information security system within the
next five years.
According to a report today in official newspaper China Daily,
while the national information security system is under
development, the Chinese government is trying other ways to raise
the level of information security in the country, including
drafting a law that would require the use of information security
systems.
A draft of the law is expected to be completed by the end of
2005.
Information security is a widespread problem in China, where
many networks and servers are vulnerable to attack. China Daily
said that a survey this year of 7,072 important information
networks had found that 58% had security problems and 10% had
suffered "huge" financial losses.
