Cookson Group, a global materials technology company is
adopting new wide area network technology for its businesses that
will improve network traffic performance and increase data
security.
The company, headquartered in London, is adopting the use of
IPSec (IP Security protocol) and multi-protocol label switching
(MPLS) across its operations.
The new networks Cookson is adopting are being designed,
implemented and managed by Vanco, which is migrating the company
away from its legacy Frame Relay-based networks. The deal is for
three years.
With the help of MPLS, Cookson will use policy based routing
techniques to direct non-critical data across the internet
infrastructure, while freeing up the main core network for business
critical applications, like Citrix thin client software which
supports remote working and JD Edwards enterprise resource planning
applications.
Cookson said Vanco was chosen because it is a virtual network
operator (VNO), meaning it mixes and matches different network
services from a variety of telcos to meet a customer’s
requirements.
“We do not wish to be restricted to a single carrier’s
infrastructure, technology and partners. We want to be able to use
the very best the global telecoms market has to offer to find
the most appropriate solutions, as and when our business needs
evolve,” added John Heuvelman, IT director for half of the Cookson
operations covered by the deal.
